SLGM Accepts NACLAA
by Linda Davies, SLGM Registrar

BRUDERHEIM, AB -- On December 9, 2002 members of the Society of Local Government Mangers of Alberta accepted NACLAA (the National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration) as the educational benchmark for professional designation and membership in Society. This is the culmination of years of work and a strong partnership and working relationship with Government Studies, University of Alberta.

As the National Program evolved the Society involved its membership in the changes contemplated through newsletter articles, presentations from Drs. LeSage and Stefanick at the Society's Annual General Meetings, electronic reports and an electronic forum on November 8, 2002 hosted by Government Studies. An electronic ballot was supplied to the membership in late November. Sixty percent of the membership responded to the vote and overwhelmingly accepted the NACLAA Program as the new educational benchmark for the profession replacing the Local Government Certificate and the Senior Executive Fellows Program.

The next step in the process is to include the new educational standard for initial registration in the Local Government Managers Regulation under the Professional and Occupational Associations Registration Act (POARA.)
